Big Pike as Bycatch while Zander Fishing

Big pike are not an uncommon bycatch when pelagic vertical jigging for zander in Sweden during summer. This mean predator brutally attacked my Westin Twin Teez 8″ color “baitfish” presented in free water a few days ago.

Behaviour of Big Pike in Sweden

With water temperatures being fairly high during summer, big pike have now moved out of the shallow areas into deeper and colder water resuming a more pelagic lifestyle / hunting strategy. To accommodate their metabolism big pike actively seek areas with water temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees Celsius.
